We love Orange

Orange is a colour that for me, inspires warmth, energy, and happiness. It’s the perfect choice for infusing life and spark into a neutral palette without overwhelming it. Although there are many different shades of orange, from soft peach to bold tangerine, that evoke various moods, for this piece I’m talking flashes of more vibrant oranges. Brighter hues energize a space and stimulate creativity. Incorporating orange into neutral decor can bring a fresh, modern twist that feels both lively and harmonious.

When it comes to interior design, we love neutral decor as a timeless choice that offers versatility and a calming atmosphere. Whites, beiges and soft browns that we explored previously create an inviting backdrop for any space, allowing one to express your unique style without overwhelming the senses. However, as beautiful as neutral tones can be, they can sometimes feel bland or sterile. This is where strategic bursts of colour come into play—specifically, this month we are looking at vibrant pops of orange. Below are ways to effectively incorporate this warm hue into a neutral decor scheme for a balanced and dynamic space.

Accent Walls: One of the most effective ways to introduce orange is through an accent wall. Choose a bold shade of orange to paint one wall in a room. Even a stripe or series of stripes in a more modern scheme could be interesting to use. This creates a focal point and allows the rest of the neutral decor to balance out. Pairing the orange accent wall with neutral furniture and decor will make the space feel cohesive and inviting.

Textiles: Add orange through textiles like throw pillows, blankets, or rugs. These elements can easily be swapped out, allowing you to change the look of a room seasonally or for a period of time. For instance,  throw blanket can add warmth in the colder months of December and January, while a vibrant orange geometric rug can energize a space for the summer.

Textiles compliment artwork

Artwork is a fantastic way to incorporate colour without making permanent changes. A large piece featuring orange tones can draw the eye and bring the room to life. It can also reflect and counter other pieces you may have punctuated throughout the room. Choose artwork that complements your neutral colour scheme while adding depth and character.

Accessories: Small accessories like vases, candle holders, or picture frames are easy to change out and can add just the right amount of orange. Look for unique items that catch your eye, and be sure to scatter them throughout the space for a cohesive look.

Nature: I’m not a fan of bright orange flowers unless specifically picked from the garden but a simple bowl of oranges, for example, can serve as a stunning centrepiece  on a white kitchen counter.

To create balance while incorporating pops of orange into neutral decor, it’s essential to maintain balance. Too much orange can overwhelm the space, so aim for a few key pieces to create an eye-catching contrast with the neutrals. The goal is to create a harmonious environment where orange enhances the existing decor rather than competing with it.

Pops of orange can create a space that feels both inviting and energetic. By thoughtful integration, you can achieve a stylish and dynamic interior that reflects your personality while maintaining a sense of tranquility. Whether through accent walls, textiles, artwork, or accessories, the possibilities are endless. Embrace the warmth of orange and elevate your neutral decor to new heights!
